Risto Rajakorpi, violoncello

The Finnish cellist Risto Rajakorpi is one of the very sought-after chamber musicians. Born in 1970 in Finland, he studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Arto Noras and at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf with Prof. Goritzki.

He also participated in master classes with Janos Starker, Frans Helmerson and David Geringas. He finished his studies in 1996 with the Konzertexamen. Since 1997, he is principal cellist with the Dortmunder Philharmoniker.

As a soloist he performed among others with the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, the Düsseldorf Ensemble and Accademia Filarmonica Trentina, in Germany, Finland, Hungary and Italy. At festivals such as Naantali Music Festival and Festival of Lapland in Sweden, he worked together with Truls Mork, Vladimir Mendelssohn and Diemut Poppen.
Risto Rajakorpi's chamber music repertoire is vast, ranging from duo to nonet, including sonata evenings and various ensembles. He works a lot with composers like Adam Vilagi and has premiered numerous works. With Krzysztof Penderecki, he worked on his solo cello and chamber music.
