Violin, musical director

Alexander Prushinskiy is one of the most sought after violinists of the younger generation in Germany. Since 2009 he has been leading the Dortmunder Philharmoniker as First Concertmaster.

As a soloist and leader he is regularly engaged by the major German orchestras, for example the Gürzenich-Orchester Cologne, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of the Netherlands, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken. In addition to these engagements Alexander Prushinskiy is an avid chamber musician: with the Astor Trio, the Arisva Quartet and as musical director of the Kölner Klassik Ensemble.

Born in 1981 in Novosibirsk, Alexander Prushinskiy comes from a family of musicians. His special talent was soon discovered after he started his first violin lessons at six years of age with Prof. Alexey Gvozdev at the local music school. As a famous child prodigy in Russia, he gave his debut concerts as a soloist with orchestra in New York, Washington, Rio de Janeiro and other major cities, when he was just 12 years old.

His studies led Alexander Prushinskiy to the Escuela de la Música Reina Sofía in Madrid where he studied with Prof Zakhar Bron and later to the Hochschule für Musik Köln where he completed his artistic studies with Prof. Bron with best results. Alexander Prushinskiy has enjoyed musical instruction from some of the greatest musicians of our time: Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman, Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov, Mstislav Rostropovich and Vladimir Spivakov. As a soloist with orchestra, he has played in some of the world’s leading venues, such as the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid and concert tours have led him through Brazil, USA and Japan.
