The programme starts with one of the best-known pieces from the Spanish guitar repertoire of the late 19th century, Francisco Tárrega’s *Capricho Arabe*, whose compositional style influenced a great many guitar composers at the turn of the century. This influence can also be seen in the works of the three significant composers who follow: the Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos, the Italian Benvenuto Terzi and the Mexican Manuel María Ponce. The programme then comes full circle with two milestones of Spanish Romanticism: ‘Granada’ and ‘Asturias’ from the Suite Española, Op. 47, by Isaac Albéniz.
