Alexander Prushinskiy as soloist with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra in his ‘home hall’, the Dortmund Konzerthaus: this always promises to be an absolute highlight of great violin artistry. Over two evenings, he will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 19.
Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 is a visionary work. Right from the start, it transports us to other realms. We are then, as it were, brought back down to earth by a virtuosic, driving scherzo, before finally arriving at a crystalline palace of sound, whose ceiling seems to open up to reveal a starry sky, until the music dissipates. The Dortmund audience regularly has the opportunity to admire the violin playing of their concertmaster, Alexander Prushinskiy. The Russian repertoire is close to his heart as a whole, but Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1, which he requested for this programme, is practically tailor-made for him.
Nicolò Foron, one of the most interesting young German conductors, will be taking up the baton. Born in Genoa in 1998, he grew up practically next door in Bielefeld and has already enjoyed a remarkable international career
