New Year’s Concert with Baroque and contemporary masters
The New Year’s Concert in Aachen – organised jointly by LOGOI – Institute for Philosophy and Discourse and the Kölner Klassik Ensemble e.V. – has now become a much-loved tradition. This year, Luciano Marziali and Tobias Kassung will perform together as a guitar duo. A top-class concert is guaranteed. Both musicians have been at home on the international stage for many years and are among the most distinguished and exceptional masters of their instrument.
For the New Year’s Concert in Aachen, the duo has put together a programme that is sure to set the hearts of classical music and guitar aficionados racing, combining some of the greatest masterpieces of Baroque art with brilliant modern compositions.
Renaissance dance pieces by John Dowland are interwoven with two of the monumental contrapuntal works from Johann Sebastian Bach’s *The Art of Fugue* and Georg Friedrich Händel’s Suite HWV 432 (featuring the famous final movement, the Passacaglia). From the modern era come Kassung’s rousing original composition *Il Cinema*, three *Minettes* by Hans Werner Henze and *La Danse des Sentiments* by the French composer Mathias Duplessy. The programme also features a rousing finale with brilliant arrangements of classic film scores by the great Ennio Morricone.
