In 2011, Lena Kravets and Tobias Kassung established their duo in the Cologne Classical Ensemble. With the rare combination of cello and guitar, they develop very individual programmes and delight audiences in their concerts across Germany. In autumn 2023, their new album "La lumière du sud" was released by KSG Exaudio, reaching thousands of listeners worldwide within a very short time.
"La lumière du sud - the light of the south" is entirely dedicated to the masters of French music. The vastness of the French coast, the high, blue sky and the special light have inspired French artists at all times to create special works of art. In music, too, lightness merges with southern flair and the French way of life. Great impressionists like Claude Debussy or Gabriel Fauré meet the baroque master Marin Marais and the contemporary Parisian composer Mathias Duplessy, who wonderfully combines French lightness with flamenco and Brazilian bossa nova.
This concert is part of our new series Kölner Klassik © NRW 2024, where works of recent and new music that are outstanding in their quality and have a connection to NRW will be performed side by side with more well-known chamber music. One of these works is the Capriccio à la lumière du sud, op. 16, written in 2020 for the duo cello & guitar by Lena Kravets and Tobias Kassung. It is an integral part of the duo's repertoire and the "title piece" of their new CD.
